Who sits at the top table?
Traditionally the bride and groom sit along one side at the
midway point of the top table - which is often long and rectangular.
Next to the bride sits her father, next to him the groom’s
mother, next to her the best man and next to him in a girl
boy order the bridesmaids, groomsmen or ushers.
Next to the groom will be the bride’s mother, next
to her the groom’s father and next to him the maid or
matron of honor followed by again in a boy girl order groomsman
or ushers and bridesmaids.
However, nowadays the top - also called the head or bridal
- table might include just the bride and groom and their attendants.
The best man might be seated next to the bride or next to
the groom and the same goes for the matron or maid of honor.
The top table if there’s room might also include the
attendants’ spouses or long-term dates, and parents
may or may not be included. So in other words as today there
really seems to be no good or bad top table etiquette the
choice of who sits where is up to you.
